Days 3: Serengeti Full Day

Wake up for an early game drive before breakfast to spot wildlife in their active state. The exhilarating sensation of waking up in the heart of the African safari hub envelops you as you encounter the raw drama of the great Serengeti – the crown jewel of African safaris. After the game drive, return to your lodge for brunch before resuming your game-viewing activity.

Depending on the time of year, you will have the opportunity to witness one of Earth’s most impressive natural dramas as tens of thousands of animals, compelled by the primeval rhythms of survival, continually move in search of fresh grasslands. Among the most famous and numerous are the wildebeests, numbering over 1.5 million. Their annual migration is the Serengeti’s most significant attraction, promising an exhilarating experience and offering a glimpse into the intricate tapestry of the African wildlife. However, the viewing window can be quite short.

In the early evening return to the lodge for dinner and a restful evening.

Day 4: Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Rise up early for a morning game-viewing drive before breakfast, a prime opportunity to spot wildlife at their most active, and witness the breathtaking sunrise over the African savannah – one of the most beautiful experiences you will ever encounter. After the game drive, return to the camp for brunch, followed by a transfer to Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Enter the world-renowned Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site encompassing a vast interrelated ecosystem. This area includes the Crater Highlands, home to the iconic Ngorongoro Crater, as well as expansive plains, grasslands, bush, and woodland, covering an impressive 8,300 sq km. Once again, you’ll pause for a few minutes at a viewpoint, treating yourself to sweeping views of the crater. After capturing these fleeting moments and relishing the breathtaking views, you’ll proceed to your well-appointed lodge for an overnight stay.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater

Following an early morning breakfast, you descend nearly 2,000 feet down into the crater with the hope to spot some, if not all, of the Big Five. Within this vast caldera lies every type of ecosystem imaginable, from riverine forests to open plains and freshwater lakes, making it a haven for a plethora of wildlife as well as abundant avian species. Moreover, the Crater provides a rare window to a stunning backdrop for viewing a glut of wildlife, especially lion, elephant and highly endangered black rhino.

You’ll likely spot lion, wildebeest, zebra, eland, bushbuck, cheetah, jackal, buffalo, Grant’s gazelle, Thompson’s gazelle and and the elusive black rhinoceros. Delight in a picnic lunch amidst this natural wonder, and as the afternoon sun wanes, ascend the crater walls, and drive to your lodge in Karatu, where a tranquil evening awaits, providing the perfect backdrop for reflection on the day’s extraordinary encounters with Tanzania’s wildlife.

Day 6: Lake Manyara National Park

Venture out on another mesmerizing adventure to Lake Manyara right after an early morning breakfast. What distinguishes Lake Manyara and positions it among our favorites is its rich avian population, elusive tree-climbing lions (if luck is on your side), and the alkaline lake, which, during certain seasons, becomes a haven for tens of thousands of flamingos. Additionally, the park is home to a diverse array of wildlife and offers great opportunities to observe hippos at closer range.

Despite its small size, Manyara boasts diverse vegetation zones, ranging from savanna to marshes and acacia woodlands. This diversity supports a wide range of habitats, providing a unique glimpse into wildlife in its natural habitat. In the afternoon, enjoy a picnic lunch at one of the designated spots and resume your game-viewing activities before retiring to your well-appointed lodge in the early evening.

Day 7: Lake Manyara then Back to Arusha

Leave for Lake Eyasi after breakfast, aiming to spend some quality time with the Hadzabe bushmen who have called this region home for approximately 10,000 years and continue to uphold traditional hunting and gathering practices. Also known as the Hadza, they speak a language characterized by clicks, possibly distantly related to that of Southern Africa’s San.

Today you have the opportunity to engage in various activities that are integral to the daily lives of the indigenous Hadza people. The men will be happy to demonstrate their hunting techniques, showcasing how they shoot arrows, and if you’re interested, you can try your hand at shooting a few arrows as well. The photographic opportunities are truly extraordinary, making this tour a definite highlight of your safari. These activities will provide you a window of opportunity to gain valuable insights into many aspects of the Hadzabe lifestyle.

Early in the afternoon, you’ll journey back to Arusha and transfer to the airport for your homeward flight or to other destinations. In these fleeting moments, time, you will feel, is too short. Enjoy an uplifting end to a wonderful Tanzania safari, soaking in the cultural richness and taking great memories with you.
