Day to Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at JRO
When you land at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), your Kilimanjaro adventure officially begins. Your Tanzanian trip will begin when you land and are met with a warm welcome from our friendly staff. We’ll make sure your transfer to your Arusha lodging goes well. On your arrival day, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to rest, acclimatise and receive a thorough pre-climb briefing to make sure you’re ready for the ascent.
Day 2: Lemosho Gate (2,385m) to Big Tree Camp (2,780m)
The Lemosho Gate is where your Kilimanjaro adventure begins (2,385 metres or 7,825 feet). On Day 2, you will check in, get to know your knowledgeable guides and fellow hikers, and begin an enthralling trip through the verdant jungles. The route is abundant in rare plants and animals. Big Tree Camp will be your first night’s lodging (2,780 metres or 9,121 ft).
Day 3: Big Tree Camp to Shira 1 Camp (3,505m)
You go from Big Tree Camp to Shira 1 Camp on Day 3. The six to seven-hour walk leads you into the heather zone and through enchanted rainforests. You will spend the night at Shira 1 Camp after climbing to an elevation of 3,505 metres (11,500 feet).
Day 4: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp (3,840m)
Proceed to Shira 2 Camp on Day 4 after leaving Shira 1 Camp. This portion of the walk offers breathtaking views as it winds through the moorland. You will arrive at Shira 2 Camp, which is 3,840 metres (12,598 ft) above sea level.
Day 5: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp (3,960m)
You go from Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp on Day 5. Hikers will encounter the Shira Plateau, which offers some amazing views. After that, you will fall to 3,960 metres (12,992 feet) of elevation to Barranco Camp. The hike takes roughly six to seven hours.
Day 6: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp (4,035m)
Take on the exciting rock scramble known as the Barranco Wall to start off Day 6. You’ll climb to 4,035 metres (13,238 feet) at Karanga Camp as you pass through rugged terrain. This day’s walk will take four to five hours.
Day 7: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp (4,680m)
Day 7: Travel through the high desert regions, gaining altitude gradually to reach Barafu Camp. Located at 4,680 metres (15,354 feet) above sea level, this camp is your last stop before making the summit push. This is a three to four-hour walk.
Day 8: Summit Day - Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) and Mweka Camp (3,100m)
The final day of your expedition begins with your summit attempt on Day 8. Depending on how quickly you go, you may wake up late on Day 7 or early on the next day. The climb will take you past the captivating Gilman’s Point (5,681 metres or 18,638 feet) on the crater rim and over difficult scree slopes. At last, you will arrive at Africa’s highest point, Uhuru Peak (5,895 metres or 19,341 ft), where you can celebrate your incredible accomplishment. Proceed downhill to Mweka Camp (3,100 metres or 10,170 feet) after that.
Day 9: Departure
Day 8 is the culmination of your adventure, commencing with the summit attempt. You’ll rise either late on Day 7 or early on the following day, depending on your pace. The ascent will lead you through challenging scree slopes and past the mesmerizing Gilman’s Point (5,681 meters or 18,638 feet) on the crater rim. Finally, you’ll reach Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters or 19,341 feet), the highest point in Africa, where you’ll celebrate your remarkable achievement. Afterward, begin the descent to Mweka Camp (3,100 meters or 10,170 feet).
